Y'all I did NOT know this about Harris, and I think it's really critical that we all listen and understand as we approach this election. Video at the end.
This creator's video describes how progressive Harris was as a prosecutor -- actively going against the grain to the point she was accused of being soft on crime. Accused of being a social worker, not a prosecutor. She calls it being smart on crime. She's pushing for systemic changes to give real pathways to reintegrate incarcerated folks back into society and prevent their past from continuing to haunt them moving forward.
"Kamala's a cop" is a catchy dismissive response usually used to shut down conversation rather than add nuance. But this kind of reform is ESSENTIAL to work towards a present and future that treats incarcerated people with value.
I fell for it in 2020 and have thought "Kamala's a cop" without further inspection since - and I'm sobered by the realization that (you guessed it!) I'm not immune to propaganda.
A better system only follows liberal democracy, because library democracy allows for exploration of better systems. If authoritarianism takes hold, it will not allow for the exploration of better systems. We will have to fight tooth and nail just to try to get back to liberal democracy, and I suspect we could not achieve it in our lifetimes.
Harris isn't perfect. But she's a hell of a lot better than many leftists have led me to believe. Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. Don't let perfection be the enemy of harm reduction.
We can either help elect Trump and usher in authoritarian fascism, or we can help defeat him and pull things back in the direction we want to go. Not liking the choices doesn't absolve you from participating and doing the most good you can with the options available.
I'll link the original video in the replies. The original video has captions if you need them.

As a leftist it is often frustrating how many leftists are just straight up bad at politics. Like yeah fuck the system the system sucks, but it is the system we have right now and until your revolution materialises, we have to operate within that system to achieve things but so many leftists just insist on really dumb political moves.

I understand the fear, I understand the heartbreak. I feel like my home state has to be written off now, as a place I could safely raise my teenage children. I can’t risk having another child in my home state because I’d fear I would die if G-d forbid I needed a medical abortion and wouldn’t be able to risk leaving my two kids without a mother - so I can’t have that option in my future. It’s been taken from me.
But the cancel culture that is imbedded in our generation is simply dangerous. Do I have my dad blocked on social media because I don’t want to see his stupid posts? Yup. Am I writing him and everyone in my family off because they voted for Trump and saying I’ll never join another family dinner? No.
We cannot alienate ourselves completely from “the other side” or it will just create a greater gap. We will never understand where the other is coming from if we cut everyone off. We will never be able to form a bridge and meet in the middle.
Ive been thinking a lot about folks who have been members of extremist groups like the KKK and have gone onto become some of the most vocal voices for Civil rights BECAUSE minority folks, black folks, had the balls to shake those people’s hands, have real conversations, and NOT just assume that they are ALL hateful, dumb, pieces of shit.
I’m not saying it’s fair that we as women, POC, queer folk, etc have to be the bigger people. But it’s life. And if we want real change, we have to be willing to see the humanity in EVERYONE, even when it feels impossible.

It’s been one (1) day and I’ve already seen the fact that Kamala Harris’s husband is (((Jewish))) brought up multiple times, so that’s gonna be a fun thing to deal with for the next four months and potentially another 4-8 years after that

It's okay not to like Trump. But, get off the "Racism" kick!
Hillary was white. Hillary was a "White Woman." Hillary lost.
And, quite frankly, Hillary was a far better speaker, more intelligent and vastly more accomplished. And she lost. If it all came down to "Evil white racism" then I guess you're "Arguing" that Hillary was black.
AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT... I was here, in Tumblr, arguing with LeftTards all through 2016 as they attacked Hillary. They didn't give a damn about Roe v Wade back then, when it mattered, when they had an opportunity to save it, they were all too busy lashing out at Hillary.

So from what I can tell
If you don't hate Chappelle Roam people will hate you
And if you hate Chappelle Roan people will hate you
I think I'm just gonna remain ignorant on this one because I'm getting a headache just looking at this shit without knowing who this person is.

i wanna talk about kamala’s suit in The Marvels, bc why did they change it???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the one in the show looked so good to me! the colors went well with each other and the material looked visably durable at least. i also liked the detailing and textures on it! it added to the style and her character. it made the suit specific to her and her culture since that’s such a big part of her story.
the new one is… eh.
the big thing for me is the colors- they feel duller. also the geometric lines especially on the arms and legs are kind of distracting. and looking at the second photo above, the detailing is there but it’s not too noticable. along with that, the first suit had different shapes and patterns for the detailing, and there was still places where it wasn’t used but it all went well together. the second one seems to have the same pattern all over and it’s not drawing my eye anywhere.
and the mask!!! what happened to her mask!! (i mean, tbh i do think the second design does look better w/out a mask so i’m not too annoyed about exactly that, but more about the fact i thought they were going to have kamala keep more of a secret idenity thing.) ((also thought she was going to be more of a street hero, or maybe more on a similar level like ant-man, but that’s besides the piont.))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
overall, i just think her first suit looks more interesting with the colors and with how everything works with each other. the gold lines popping out from the suit adds texture and the different blues used adds variety along with the fact that the blues only took up the torso part and the red was saved for the arms and legs.
the new one feels flat and not as exciting and i think it’s bc of the fabric- it’s thinner and it’s not reflecting light like the other one does. nothing is physically standing out from the other, the red section on the torso part blends into the legs, and the use of the three colors alone w/out different tones or anything adds to the feeling that everything is flat.

what’s the point of conversation if you aren’t verbally penetrating each other or devouring the other. yes i know you’re probably maintaining friendly and lightheartedly supportive relations with other people and yes i know i regularly am like i WISH people TALKED to me and yes i would be creeped out if i was probed in questions or overshared at by a stranger as if vomiting bile.
i’m just… feeling frustrated.

On Kamala Harris’s defeat
Democrats’ strategy of courting conservative suburban voters failed….as it has done over and over again.
Despite Trump’s platform, Latino voters have swung drastically right, continuing the trend we saw in 2020. It’s like the turkey voting for Thanksgiving.
There’s a dangerous theme among Gen Z men becoming radically right-wing. The Trump Campaign capitalized on this.
I’m not surprised the outdated Democratic Party failed…again. They play a game meant for two decades ago. Fantastic ground game doesn’t matter. Conservative pundits run the airways. Social media is a conservative hellscape. People like Joe Rogan hold significant sway and there is no progressive, or even liberal, counterbalance.
This country has moved right and it’s incredibly concerning. While we had some wins this election, we saw decent progressives ousted in their primaries and status quo politics fail in the general.
The problem is bigger than Kamala. The entire Democratic Party establishment must be dismantled. This has been the case since at least 2015. Liberalism at large is failing and the Democratic Party is incentivized to keep doing business as usual to appease donors (hint: this doesn’t mean you!). We need a true populist left movement if we are ever going to get out of this conservative hole.

I'm seeing a worrying amount of idiots on tumblr dot com push that "Kamala hates trans women" and I am losing my mind at how they are pushing it, constantly, saying she is a proven transmisogynist, despite it being a complete lie and her actively working behind the scenes to help trans women in prison. Is there like, sources that could help debunk this shit because I'm at my wits end as these people scream and cry and vomit trying to get biden to drop out but then are like "eghhhh still don't wanna vote for a transphobic cop..." when she's NEITHER-
Isn't the internet wonderful? first rule NEVER examine your priors! ALWAYS! hang onto whatever the first hot take you had on a subject to THE DEATH!
"Kamala is Transphobic!" over here in reality
Tumblr media
past that trans and LGBT rights groups have been quick to endorse her like
Advocates for Trans Equality
Human Rights Campaign
just today 1,100 LGBT celebrities, lawmakers and leaders endorsed her
“The intersection on the issue of reproductive care and trans care, and the ability of families to be able to have care for their children and their families, is really, again, an intersection around attacks that are on an identity,” -Vice-President Harris, 2023
any ways the root of the idea she's transphobic comes from one case in 2015. Two inmates in the California State Prison system sued to get GRS, which as inmates would have been covered by the Prison system. It's worth noting here, both women got what they wanted, one was paroled and got the surgery covered by California Medicare while the other serving a life sentence was ultimately covered by the prison system.
Two things are important to bear in mind here, 1. Part of the job of California Attorneys General is to defend the state when it is sued, thats the job, 2. It seems early on in the case Harris was not personally aware of it, about 1,000 lawyers work in the Cali AG's office and so the AG cannot be personally aware of every case, and check this quote from the Lambda Legal lawyer handling the case:
“The California AG’s office shifted its handling of these cases significantly after now-Sen. Harris took over,” Renn said. “Initially there was language in briefing for the state that glaringly misunderstood the medical necessity of transition-related medical care and was patently offensive. But then, there was a dramatic change, which seems to have gone along with important policy shifts.”
Link
in 2019 Harris talked about the case and working after it was settled to change the policy of the California State Prison system
"When that case came up, I had clients, and one of them was the California Department of Corrections. It was their policy. When I learned about what they were doing, behind the scenes, I got them to change the policy," Harris said.
"I commit to you that always in these systems there are going to be these things that these agencies do. And I will commit myself, as I always have, to dealing with it," Harris said.
Any ways Harris can consistently spoken out for and supported Trans people, banned the hateful Trans panic defense when she was AG, in the Senate supported the Equality Act, during her 2020 campaign for President she drew attention to the hate crimes against black trans women while holding herself accountable for the 2015 case. As Vice-President she drew fire voicing support for Dylan Mulvaney during the hellish Bud Light backlash. Her Husband Doug was tapped to host the first ever White House Trans Day of Remembrance
basically you're looking at a great ally who clearly supports trans rights, who was involved in a case, which involved two people who got the surgeries they were looking for paid for by the State of California, close to 10 years ago now, there's evidence that both she moved the case in a better direction when she took over it and also that she changed the polices of the state to before more gender affirming.

We need an option for “I was voting Dem, and now I’m voting Dem even harder.” The debate didn’t change who I’m going to vote for, but yeah, it did change my mind. Fingers crossed that I’ll make a full recovery.
#presidential debate#us politics#american politics#us elections#election 2024#kamala harris#voting#poll#tumblr polls#the older I get the more I realize this country is terrible#if I thought I could get my friends to move with me I’d be so gone#I want to live among the hobbits in Aotearoa New Zealand#or track down my extended family in Germany!#or find a husband with that sexy accent in Scotland#the absolute funniest thing to me is when people freak out about indigenous land back movements#thinking it’s anti white racism somehow#(We don’t have time there’s a character limit I’m not even gonna get into that)#and that it would result in the total dissolution of the United States and the reinstatement of indigenous governments#that white people - if we’re not fully evicted from the country - would have to become citizens of#now listen. that’s not what land back means. like. At all.#HOWEVER I think maybe we should#I don’t want to move if I don’t have to (all those tags above are about desperation!!!!!)#but remember that that’s not actually what indigenous people are usually asking for!#I am so on board for the rest of it.#the debate featured two people vying for power over my life. they are the only 2 options. and the electoral college means no REAL democracy#now listen. I am NOT an expert. if an actual haudenosaunee person ever says something that even vaguely contradicts what I’m about to say#but as I understand it. haudenosaunee culture featured *real* democracy AND roles specifically reserved for women!!!!!#meanwhile there are sitting senators who think we can hold our periods in like pee#that just sounds so much better#watching the debate with the knowledge that that used to exist exactly where I am was very sad and frustrating

From a Campaign Perspective: Why Endorsing Kamala Harris Makes the Most Sense
Yay, Biden stepped back! (if this is how you found out and not the supernatural alert system meme... oops)
Let's talk about why Kamala Harris makes the most sense even if she, like Biden, is not one of our first choices (though she's higher on my list, certainly)
(My credentials: Former campaign worker, poli sci degree, etc)
It'd be really fucked up for him to step back and cause a PR disaster for the Dems. Kamala Harris has been at his side this whole time. Stepping over her, a woman of color who has already been doing much of the work, would cause a public relations crisis.
Kamala Harris has name recognition. We know who she is, and we at least vaguely know what she stands for. Name recognition is hugely important in an election and we do not have enough time to build it right now. This is not the time to pick someone that we've never heard of before or even vaguely never heard of.
She's run a campaign before. She knows how to do this, she has a platform that she can modify a little as needed and be ready to go over night. She has the donors from last time and everything.
She's already got a campaign schedule for Biden, she can modify that easily to suit her own needs and has more freedom to campaign than the current president because she's *not* the current president, she doesn't have COVID right now, and she's not older than dirt.
She is perfectly capable of making Trump look like a fucking idiot on stage. The highlight reel is gonna look so much better next time, hopefully.
Personal speculation: I think people are far less likely to sit it out with her name at the top of the ticket.
So what should you be doing right now?
Let's start simple. Understand that Biden did what many of us wanted right here. He stepped away from the campaign he was running and handed it off to someone younger. Fuck yeah!
Also remember that anyone who encourages you not to vote likely has an alternative agenda that involves you having less power to use your voice.
Ok, what else?
Check your voter registration here.
Not registered? You’ve moved and it’s out of date? Update your voter registration/registration here.
Don’t forget to vote up and down the ballot! Local elections matter, and hopefully you’ll find someone you’re a lot more passionate about on a local level.
And make sure your friends do the same!!!!
This website also covers what you may need to bring with you the day of. Some states require you to bring your ID, for example, so go check.Your state may have early voting options, and you should definitely use those! They make life a lot easier. You can check those out here.
P.S. Make sure to check your voter registration closer to the election as well, just in case. Probably sometime in September would be best, but just keep an eye out.
